Knit Effect
For this project, I delved into knitting techniques using Houdini, drawing inspiration from the impressive work of Paul Esteves and John Kunz. I’ve long been curious about how Disney creates their detailed scarves and sweaters, so I decided to take a shot at it myself.
To achieve the twisting motion, I point-deformed the knit onto a simulated cloth mesh. The rendering was done in Solaris using Karma, and I experimented with the ACES color space to observe its effect on the final output. The results were impressive, and I’m convinced to stick with it moving forward. I’d also like to express my gratitude to my mentor, Christopher Rutledge, for his valuable feedback and input throughout the process.
